The player with the Ace of Spades leads. Everyone must follow the led suit if they can. When all cards follow, the pile clears; but if someone cannot follow and throws an off-suit Thulla, the highest led-suit card picks up the whole pile. Empty your hand to get away.
A Thulla is an off-suit card played when you cannot follow the led suit. Instead of clearing, the player who laid the highest card of the originally led suit must pick up the entire pile. The Thulla is how the pile suddenly lands on someone.
The moment your hand is empty you have got away and are safe for the round. Play continues until only one player is left holding cards — that player is the Bhabhi. Getting away early is the whole goal.

Jhabbu is best with 3 to 6 players and a single standard 52-card deck. Deal every card out as evenly as possible — some players may hold one extra card, and that is normal. There are no teams; everyone plays for themselves.
The player holding the Ace of Spades leads the very first trick. That opening trick is a safe warm-up: everyone plays a card, the pile is cleared away, and the opener leads again.
On every trick, you must play a card of the led suit if you hold one. As long as everyone follows suit, the trick stays safe.
If every card follows the led suit, the highest card wins the trick and that player leads next. The cleared cards are set aside and play simply continues — the pile is only ever picked up when a Thulla is thrown.
When you cannot follow the led suit, you throw an off-suit card — a Thulla — and the trick ends right there. The player who laid the highest card of the originally led suit must pick up the entire pile into their hand, then leads the next trick.
The moment your hand is empty, you have got away — you are safe for the round. Getting away early is the whole goal.
The round ends when only one player still holds cards, and that player is the Bhabhi. Classic play keeps no score — families just remember who was left holding the cards.
The classic mistake is hoarding high cards and getting stuck with them at the end. Shed them when it is safe, keep a low card in a common suit so you can follow without winning the trick, and watch which suits your opponents cannot follow — that is where a well-timed Thulla lands the pile on them.
